Children at risk of severe monkeypox cases – NCDC

 The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control has warned Nigerians that severe cases of monkeypox, currently being experienced in some countries, including Nigeria, are common in children.



The disease, which according to the World Health Organisation is endemic to West and Central African countries, has started to surface in European countries.


While NCDC noted that only 46 suspected cases had been reported with 15 confirmed so far, countries such as the United Kingdom, the United States of America, Portugal, Spain and Canada, among others reported cases of the disease.


The centre assured Nigerians of its capacity to effectively diagnose and respond to cases, while it also warned that severe cases commonly occur in children.

Troops kill scores of Boko Haram, ISWAP fighters in Mandara mountains, recover bomb, others

The Nigerian Army Headquarters has revealed that tr oops of 144 Battalion Madagali-Adamawa State have killed an unspecified number of Islamic State’s West Africa Province, ISWAP as well as Boko Haram insurgents at the Mandara mountains, Cameroon–Nigeria border. T he incident which occurred early hours of Monday led to the recovery of unexploded IEDs and other dangerous weapons. The post read, “Based on intelligence report, in the early of today Monday troops of 144 Battalion Madagali-Adamawa State in conjunction with Civilian JTF laid an ambush on withdrawing ISWAP/BHT after a superiority clash between the terror groups. “Scores of terrorists were neutralized at Mandara mountains. weapons, equipment and unexploded IED were recovered. ”
